THIS SIDE OF 40: Life With BryM

 HUMP DAY HAPPENINGS
Back to Full Blog

Check this out:

My aunt from Charleston recently met up with a "distant" family member during her trip to Hawaii recently and had lunch. This cousin had done some VERY extensive research on the family and the two of them had an awesome time talking about the family's history! The aunt and I have always been really interested in our family's history so it was a real treat for her to meet this lady. So as it turns out, the family member isn't so distant after all--she's actually my aunt's second cousin, which makes her my 3rd cousin....but that's not the most interesting part---the aunt sent me a picture of this lady and I almost lost my breath when I saw it....this lady looks a lot (and I do mean a LOT) like my mother!!

Faint  Even my aunt's kids {who joined them at lunch} said after the lady left, "WOW--that woman looks just like Aunt Kathy [my mom]!!" Even though it took me aback to see the picture it's still cool in a way...I can look at this lady and kind of imagine what mom would have looked like if she were still here.

Other stuff:

---> Work today was chock full of more annoyances. I assigned one of the field guys an appointment for next week, but before the ink was even dry on the email he writes back and tells me that he can't do the call because he's on vacation next week. So I check the calendar we use for entering time off--nothing. I check the Outlook calendar we just started using--nothing. I checked all my emails for the approval from his manager--again....nothing. Obviously this guy was full of crap---and you'd think that his manager would turn him down once it was obvious that the guy hadn't put in the request until today. No such luck. Even though the guys are REQUIRED to request vacation a month in advance, the time off was approved.

I'm Mad As Hell   So I got screwed....AGAIN. I ask y'all...what is the use in my trying to do my job if at any given time the guys out in the field can just take off for a week when they don't like the day & time I arrange for them?! I'm really....REALLY....fed UP with this crap! I have to keep stepping back and reminding myself, "ok Bry...you make decent money, have great benefits, and a schedule that most folks would KILL to have (Mon-Fri 8:30am - 5:30pm).....

---> I've gotten WAYYY behind on my stalking here at the 'Stream [AGAIN] and I feel horrible about it! One of the things I love to do is surf around and read all the stuff going on with you all out there but I've become a slacker lately and not gotten around to doing my visiting! Please forgive me! I promise I'll catch up on my socializing this weekend!! Techy

That's it for now! Cindy made dinner for Chris and me--corned beef and cabbage. As always it was AWESOME...but I'm now fat, happy, and sleepy!!

Bry_M,

It always pays to step back, take a deep breath, take a new view of the territory, and reflect with gratitude what is in your hand - and then go back to work.

good choice

Hi Bry, just cruising and saw your blog. Great post. Oh, I remember those working hazards. I thought I would miss working after retiring last year, and sometimes I do, but never miss the politics. I worked for the school system, so I did miss the kids, so I sub. Still have to deal with administration, but this time on 4 campuses instead of only one. I'm glutton for punishment, I guess. Nice meeting you. God Bless, Karen

Corned beef and cabbage.I haven't had that in ages..........
YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!
Its really Ironic how your 3rd cousin looks like you mom.. I have family members where I have to take a second look also...
MAkes life interesting...
I feel for you having to put up with people like that at work....Just take a step back when they get to you and count to 10 or something ... Gives you a chance to refocus and it also helps to keep your Blood PRessure down.
Well lets hope that tomrorrow is a better day.. Have a good one..

It is a small world isn't it? That is neat how your aunt ran into her cousin in Hawaii. I have a relative in Colorado who is my mom's cousin and she looks an awful lot like my grandmother.

Wow, Bry,that's an amazing story about your 3rd cousin looking just like your Mother.

We are just so loving this splendid weather, I only wish the midwest would get some relief. It's scary to see all the distruction from flooding. Well, gotta run to find some paint colors for a couple of rooms that need painting.

Don't let work get you down, just do the best job you can, it will pay off.

That's great about your 3rd cousin - & looking like your mom. I bet that did take your breath away for a minute.

I know it's hard dealing with the field people, but think of the ways your job could be worse. Better yet, what if you didn't have one at all. Kudos at taking a step back & thinking...

Happy Hump Day!

I love corned beef but as much as I love the cabbage, it does not love me You do not want to be in a room with me after cabbage.
