THIS SIDE OF 40: Life With BryM

 Wacky Weather, Part 2

Today has been another active weather day here in central North Carolina. The wind has been gusting upwards of 60mph!!! Of course, I learned today that when the wind blows that hard after an extremely soaking rain, the following can happen:

This is what is left of my outside table and bench set...all of which is made of concrete! Let's just say that I'm not at all happy about this...these sets are NOT cheap!!! Luckily, it's covered on the homeowners' insurance!

Aside from trees falling around my house, the day was actually pretty good. I spent a few hours today with a rep from that other job that I'm up for and had a really nice time! I was able to see exactly what the job entails, and I was pretty impressed. It is definitely something I could see myself doing! I was able to spend time with a rep while she did the job, and I was actually able to help her out with the work. After a couple of hours, the district manager and I spoke, and of course, he hasn't made his decision yet, so I get to play the waiting game again!! ARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! I couldn't tell which way he was leaning, so I have NO clue as to whether or not he liked me. I hate when I can't read someone...it unnerves me. He DID say that he appreciated the initiative that I showed by coming to hang out with them today, but he also said that he was going to make his decision this evening and that he'd either call with an offer or a courtesy call to let me know that I didn't get it.

I'm trying to stay positive, but at the same time I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I don't want to be disappointed if I don't get it. Jeez...

 Wacky Weather!

Anyone on the East Coast today is surely saying, "Hang on to your hat!!"...and with good reason! WOW...we've been through the wringer today here in Central North Carolina...it was fairly warm this morning when I headed out to work, then it rained like hell off and on for most of the morning...then a tornado hit a few miles from my house...then it got HOT AND HUMID....and then not more than an hour later, it was almost chilly outside! Now, we're back to the dangerous looking clouds again, and more tornado watches! I was talking to a lady at work today who recently moved here from Detroit, Michigan. She's quite nervous...she had NO idea that North Carolina was prone to bad weather. The rest of us in the room had to fill her in on what one can expect from North Carolina weather: tornadoes, hurricanes, ice storms, floods, etc. She had a terrified look in her eyes as she exclaimed, "I think I'm going back to Michigan!" Was it something we said? Tomorrow I go on a four hour "ride along" with an agent working for the company that I interviewed with last week. I'm not entirely sure if that means that I actually GOT the job or not...I suppose I'll find out this week though! Keep your fingers crossed!!

 Breathing Room & Transgender Lesbians

Ok so I’ve had a couple days off to regroup from my training class! Hehe Actually, it wasn’t all that bad…just very boring and of course the commute was a headache, but at least that part of it is behind me now. I’m still trying to get adjusted to the fact that I no longer have to wake up two hours early to get to work on time! After 8 years of doing that, it’s really a treat to have a 10 minute commute..especially with gas prices being what they are today!
Of course, monetarily, I’m not going to be doing as well as before, but I guess there’s always going to be some sort of trade off…..

On another note…I’m SICK of hearing about Anna Nicole Smith and her baby. As I write this, the tv show Inside Edition is playing in the background and I’m ready to throw a brick through the screen! Ok, maybe I’ll just change the channel, but it’s still VERY annoying to hear every detail about this child’s existence: “Today on Inside Edition: we have an exclusive interview with the garbage man who collected the trash bags that contain the soiled diapers of baby Dannielynn…..” That story followed of course by, “Anna Nicole: the absolute FINAL pictures of her in the morgue…..” Now, I’m going to make a prediction, so write today’s date down…within six months, the National Enquirer and other rags are going to be flashing the headlines, “ANNA NICOLE SMITH IS ALIVE!” The story will go something like this: “Smith has been found to be alive and living on a remote island in the South Pacific raising goats alongside Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. Of course, she doesn’t remember who she is because of the memory erasing drug given to her by the United States government….” Personally, I think that if she were really alive, she’d be living in a trailer park in Alabama…with the huge blonde hair and the equally huge fake boobs, she’d fit right in!

In more news…my friend Nightbug has materialized once again. I have to admit that I was relieved to find that she hadn’t been abducted by aliens from a distant universe, or worse, abducted by the renegade criminal who mugged her while she was walking around in the rain forest of South America. Don’t laugh..she really DID get mugged in the middle of a South American rain forest…she ran after the mugger, but he got away mostly due to the fact that she was wearing a bikini and no shoes at the time. Of course, it’s probably a good thing that he did get away because as it turns out, she was pursuing him through an area that is known to be infested with alligators and she could have very likely ended up falling prey to them! The police did come to her aid though..they took her by raft to a remote village where no one spoke English and then left her there to question the locals to see if anyone knew her assailant. I believe this was around the same time that one of her travelling companions fell into a ditch full of raw sewage. Stop laughing! It really happened! Even I couldn’t make this stuff up!

I just changed the channel on tv…now, instead of watching a story about a dead starlet who is famous for her B movies, drug usage, and layouts in Playboy magazine, I’m watching a tender love story between a lesbian and a transsexual on All My Children. It’s quite riveting, to be honest. Apparently, this is the way the story goes: Bianca is a lesbian who has fallen in love with Zoey…but Zoey is actually Zarf, who is a man. Zarf is a transsexual who wears dresses, makeup, and lives as a woman. Bianca knows this. Zoey is also falling in love with Bianca, but still wishes to be a woman. I’m confused. What is the purpose of being a man who wants to be a woman so that he can be a lesbian? Wouldn’t it just be easier to be…a man?! IS there such a thing as a transgender lesbian?

 UGH...EXHAUSTED..WORD FOR TODAY

Ok...very short post tonight. I'm POOPED. No, not because of the new job...but because for the last two days, I've had to get up at 5:15am, get ready, and leave the house by 6:30am to get to work on time...the training was in Raleigh..home of the BAD BAD BAD traffic!

LUCKILY, the orientation part is over with and tomorrow I will have a more normal commute....all of 10 minutes! Of course, there's a catch...if I get this job that pays more money & company car, etc...guess what..the commute goes right back up to about 40 minutes!! Got to do what you got to do though...damnit, why couldn't I live that has better paying jobs??!!

Damnit!

BTW: Thanks Bella and n.lynn...I got your comments on my last post, but I'm far too lazy to do a few extra keystrokes to reply! hehe

 The New Job: Day One

Ok, for those of you who were anxiously waiting for word on how my first day at the new job went, you may now rejoice in knowing that I’m going to post all about it. For those of you who couldn’t care less…SUFFER! ;)

So, the first day is always the most boring, and today was no exception to that rule. It  started out when I arrived 45 minutes early. I over estimated the amount of traffic between my house and the location of the training class. No biggie..I didn’t mind having the extra smoke time. Of course, as it turns out, it was a good thing that I arrived so early, because about 15 minutes before I was due to begin class, I heard a familiar sound coming from my gut followed by the sharp “OH GOD” pains…yes, folks….the dreaded POO PAINS! I wasn’t at all surprised…my stomach ALWAYS betrays me at the most inopportune times. Luckily, though, I’m not the kind of freak who can’t use a public bathroom. I’d rather risk the heebejeebies from a public toilet seat than to have a mudslide in my britches!

After I left a lasting impression in the men’s room, I found the classroom with relatively few problems. The first couple of hours were pretty mundane…20 people sitting in total silence, acting as though they were the only ones in the room…typical first day people. Then came the time for the dreaded, “greet your neighbor” session. My “neighbor” was Joe…a nice fellow from central Ohio who’d moved all over the country blah blah blah…since I won’t be working with him, I paid little attention to him after the little intro session. Then it was off to break, where half of the class turned out to be smokers…thank GOD. I always hate when I’m the only one in a group that smokes…it’s very awkward coming back smelling of smoke and being the only one that can be blamed for it!

Another couple hours of mundane babbling from the instructor, and then it was lunch time. Naturally, my stomach made one last stand against me and I succeeded in wasting the first five minutes of my lunch disposing of last night’s dinner. I would have promised my first born child for an Immodium AD right then! Lunch itself wasn’t much to speak of..a cheeseburger served by a rather unfriendly attendant at Burger King, and a conversation with my roomie Chris. After lunch, it was another four hours of benefits blah blah, videos blah blah, and more “thinking” exercises blah blah.

AFTER work was more exciting. I’m telling you, I should be a professional psychic…I predicted the day that I found out that I had this job that other offers would start rolling in…and I was right. I’ve had three calls since I found out that I got this job, and another one today..as a matter of fact, I just got off the phone with the guy and already he’s offering SIGNIFICANTLY more money than what I accepted at this job, a company car, and a nice bonus and benefit package! Naturally, I set up an interview with him for this week..you know, it really annoys me that all of these people waited so long to call me!! I sat on my rump for FOUR months doing nothing more than sending resumes (and blogging!) and for most of that time, I couldn’t get a call back, much less an interview!! Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have options, but I do have a sense of loyalty to the first company that actually hired me as quickly as my current employer did. If this current opportunity on the table wasn’t as much money, I wouldn’t have even considered it. Unfortunately, it’s a numbers game in the real world! So we’ll see what happens…stay tuned!

In other news…I fear that my dear friend and fellow blogger Nightbug has met with some sort of foul play! I haven’t seen any updates on her blog the past few days…I just hope that the evil gnomes didn’t carry her off into the wilderness to do unspeakable things to her…like turn her into a REPUBLICAN!!!

Well, that’s about it for today’s post. I hope everyone is coming down off their Easter sugar high..speaking of which, I just re-read my Easter story from yesterday..wow! I’ve become one twisted individual lately! haha
