THIS SIDE OF 40: Life With BryM

 Sunday, Part 2

Ugh..well I survived my day at work..but just barely! I really think that the older I get, the grumpier I'm getting....stupid, lazy people just really get on my nerves, especially when they're my co-workers! One click of a button on the computer could have saved me five minutes today, but a fellow slave decided he didn't "feel like doing it"....

Let's just say that payback is a bitch. I "didn't feel like" doing a few things myself today and immediately pushed them over to my lazy ass co-worker. The best part about the payback was that there was nothing he could do about it.

So anyway, I finally got through the day and now I'm home ready to collapse and watch some mindless tv shows for the rest of the evening. And plot my revenge towards the heifer who screwed up my schedule for next week!

 Sunday Morning

Well, here it is, bright and early Sunday morning, and I'm up.

At least today there is some hint of sunlight peering through the clouds...yesterday was absolutely miserable. Nothing but occasional drizzle all day long. That annoying rain that makes you keep your windshield wipers on the slowest intermittent setting...unless of course you are driving a vehicle that is too old to have that kind of wiper (such as mine!)...then you have to manually turn the wipers off and on! Very annoying.

I find myself struggling with something witty or profound to say here, but I think the early hour is preventing my brain from mustering something up...sometimes I wish that I drank coffee....maybe then my brilliance would wake up a bit earlier!

So I'm off to go and get ready for work. Yes, it kind of sucks working on a Sunday, but when I wasn't working on Sunday I rarely did anything besides sitting around the house, so it's not so bad!

 Suffering

Good evening.

Recently, I was introduced to a fellow blogger here on the 'stream, who has had a profound effect on me in a very short amount of time. She's a single lady living in New York who's going through some very difficult times. In fact, by reading some entries on her blog, I've learned that she's been subjected to quite a few hard times in her life, the details of which I don't feel would be appropriate for me to disclose in my blog. Suffice it to say, it's some powerful reading.

Reading this lady's struggles with her own mortality has proven hard for me...not necessarily because of what she's said, but because her words bring me back to a very difficult time in my own life, when someone I loved was having a similar struggle.

At the age of 21, my mother gave me news that at the time was the worst I'd ever heard in my life. She told me that she was dying, and there was nothing that anyone could do to change it. There aren't enough words in the English language to describe how I felt at that moment. For the next year and a half, I watched as my mother denied her prognosis, got angry about it, and then eventually accepted it. There were many times when she told me that she just didn't have the energy to fight anymore, and I completely understood. She was in a lot of pain...pain so severe it was unimaginable. There were times that I would literally pray that she'd die so that she wouldn't be in any more pain. I found myself asking, "my mom has always been so sick all of her life...why does she have to go through so much suffering?!"

I've never really been one to be overly religious, but I believe it was a nun who told me that those who suffer the most in this life are destined for greatness in heaven. I know it may sound strange, but it made sense. We're all here to learn and to grow spiritually. Everything happens for a reason, good or bad. It was those words that actually helped me deal with things after my mother did finally die. I just knew inside of me that my mother had become an angel because of her endurance during the really hard times, and that her suffering and fighting was not in vain. No matter what happened or how badly she hurt, she never gave up.

I guess that the message I'm trying to convey is that no matter what happens, never throw in the towel.

 The Big Move

I realize that this is very sudden, but I've made a huge decision in my life. It has come only after much forethought...and I've decided just to go for it. I've decided that I'm moving to Japan, effective immediately.

I've made this decision based on the following pros and cons:

CON:
Godzilla is prone to destroying Tokyo on a semi-regular basis
PRO:
Even though he eats Tokyo, Godzilla does ignore the rest of the country.

CON:
I'm likely to get my ass beaten by a Kung Fu master if I piss anyone off
PRO:
The laws of gravity do not apply in Japan, as everyone can fly and run at super speeds.

CON:
I will feel homesick for my family and friends in the United States.
PRO:
A trip home will take no time if I hop onto the back of Mothra and fly home on a regular basis.

CON:
An evil alien queen may kidnap me and try to use me for her evil bidding.
PRO:
The Power Rangers will save me!

Ok, so I'm really NOT moving to Japan, but after watching a few of those movies on tv from over there, it sure is tempting!

In other news:

----Last year, a friend and I attempted to start our own business, and sadly, it flopped before it could even get off the ground. Part of the reason was a lack of clients. Yesterday I received a call from someone who wanted to hire the company for a big commercial job.
Yes, I wanted to shoot myself.

----Is it sexual harassment when a rather large chested woman approaches you, throws a breast onto your arm and says, "Hey sugar...how are you today?" ???

----Is it sexual harassment when a male co worker walks up behind you, puts his arms around your stomach, and picks you up while asking, "what time are you taking your lunch break?" ????

----I learned today that when you offer to help someone pick out a grill from a row that contains 20 of them exactly alike, the person will pick the one that is the hardest to get to, and will become irritated when it takes you 10 minutes to retrieve it.

-----I also learned today that when you submit a credit application for someone and it is denied, they will tell you their life's story in an attempt to have the denial reversed, even if you have no control over the decision.

Well, that's my story for today.....*sigh....and the week isn't even over yet!

 Lists

For lack of a better topic this evening, I thought it'd be interesting to play, "Get to Know Me"...so what better way to do that then for me to post my likes and dislikes:

LIKES:
1. The sound of a window fan on high during the summertime..it brings back memories of summertime at my grandmother's house when I was a wee lad....

2. Classic cars...my dream ride is a 1959 Chevrolet Impala..the fins are awesome! My second favorite is the 1966 Ford Thunderbird..

3. Animals...I've got a soft spot in my soul for God's creatures..nothing makes me see red like seeing an animal abused or not taken care of...

4. Computers & the Internet...yeah, I'm a geek...if the internet was to vanish, I wouldn't be able to function as a normal person anymore...

5. Architecture...I'm pretty talented in this field and have designed well over 200 homes (on paper and on a computer program)...unfortunately I've never been able to put the talent to use as a profession...a college degree doesn't come cheap these days!

6. The ocean...I'm a beach NUT..nothing relaxes me more than time at the beach. I am a completely different person when I spend any time whatsoever there...

7. Anything historical...I'm a huge history buff...I enjoy learning about how things WERE..it gives a glimpse into how things are going to BE...because history DOES repeat itself....

8. Reader's Digest...I fell in love with the magazine when I was about 10 years old and I've been reading it ever since...

9. Senior citizens...I've got a strong admiration for those who have LIVED history..no book or magazine can tell history quite so well as those who were actually there...

10. Classic television & radio....from Gracie Allen to Zoro, there's not much I don't know about classic tv shows..and thanks to XM Radio's "Old Time Radio", I've been introduced to a whole new genre of classic entertainment....

DISLIKES:
1. Racism...it runs rampant within all the races, whether we like to admit it or not. It's ridiculous to treat someone a certain way based on the color of their skin or ethnicity....

2. Hypocrites...we've all been hypocritical at one time or another in our lives, but those who utilize the practice on a daily basis infuriate me..for example, the government...

3. Tabloid TV...does anyone REALLY care whether or not baby Dannielynn farted yesterday?

4. The Bush Administration...I've never been so political in my life until that criminal took over this country...after his 8 years are over, it will take at least two generations for this country to recover...

5. Snobs...no one is any better than anyone else on this planet, regardless of their profession, social standing, or bank account. Remember, while you're looking down your nose at someone, they can see your nose hairs and boogers...

6. Walmart...the biggest company in the world, filled with corruption and a complete disregard for those who not only work for them, but those who made them the biggest....

7. Credit bureaus...they ruin your life with the simplest mistakes yet refuse to do anything about it unless you sue them....

8. Company CEO's...like sports stars, they're nothing more than overpaid assholes with no regard for anyone but themselves.....

9. Political correctness...I've got a lot to say about this one, but I'll spare my readers the babbling...get over yourselves and speak your mind for God's sake....

10. The IRS...no such thing as "double taxation"?....think again....this entity is legally allowed to stalk anyone at anytime with no retribution of any kind...loan sharks aren't as ruthless as this government agency....

Well, that's it for tonight!
