THIS SIDE OF 40: Life With BryM
Tuesday June 19, 2007
It's been a pretty long day....the doorbell rang at 7:30 this morning..it was the guy that was supposed to fix the tv...luckily, I left the task of letting him come in and do his work to the roomie. I was just too damn tired to get up that early! Then it was off to work...my last day as full time at the customer hell counter. It was pretty uneventful for the most part, except for the one guy from Uraguay or Albania or some stupid place like that. He got a little impatient with me because I didn't speak his native language. Sorry, but I have no desire to even attempt to speak in another language besides my own, so if you don't understand English, perhaps you should move back to where you came from! At any rate, he understood me well enough when I said, "go away". The phone calls were the best today though...one woman called in and was quite annoyed about the fact that no one in the appliance department would answer her call. Naturally, she took this out on me. I asked her, "at which point in this conversation have I told you that I am the person in the appliance department?" She replied, "you didn't..what does that have to do with anything?" I said, "If I am not the one in the appliance department, why are you wasting your time yelling at me, because you're just going to have to repeat it again when or if you ever do finally reach someone in the department!" Of course, she wanted to know my name at that point. "Johnny Appleseed" was my response. She hung up on me. The next bonehead to call in was the guy who wanted the department that rents out tools. Well, there again, no one would answer the phone, so he kept getting sent back to me. I explained to him that I'd page someone overhead and he said, "I'm tired of being put on hold...you work in customer service, you SHOULD know EVERY department in the store!" Of course, I couldn't miss this golden opportunity, so I told him, "No, I don't know every department in the store, because if I did, I'd have helped you in the first place instead of transferring you." He thought for a moment and said, "Yeah I guess you're right." DUH. I'm going to try working a couple of weekends, so that should be interesting. I'm QUITE sure that I'll have a LOT of good material for you guys to laugh about! Tomorrow's post though will be about the first day of my new job! Well, time to go peep in a few virtual windows here at Blogstream...I'm hoping I'll catch Bella or Candy in their undies again! | | Posted by Bry_M at 11:16 PM -

For those of you who have prayed, crossed your fingers, and put up with my constant whining about the new job....thank you so much!! I can't tell you what it means to me that so many folks out there actually give a damn... The wait is over. I just got the call from the agency that got me the job. It's not what I expected to hear. I thought I'd be letting you all know that I'd be starting this coming Monday, but that's not going to be the case. It's a twist that I never expected. Of course, life is full of unexpected twists, I guess. It's how we handle those twists that makes us who we are, who we are going to be. Those twists also teach us the art of patience..which you all know is something I've never had much of. What was I talking about? Oh yeah...sorry....I lost my train of thought there. You know it's been really hot outside today and my allergies have been acting up which has caused a pretty bad headache, so forgive me if I get off track or ramble on a bit. Anyway....back to what I was saying....(I'm sure by now there are those reading this that want to strangle me) .....anyway, I thought I'd be announcing that I'm starting the new job this coming Monday (it being a new week and all), but as it turns out that's not going to be the case. I start this Wednesday!!!!! Yes, I rambled on purpose! | | Posted by Bry_M at 3:09 PM -

Now, before all of you think that you have confirmation that I've officially flipped my wig (shut up Nightbug!), let me just explain the title for today's post. Every Monday sucks. It's just a fact of life. Naturally, since I post something nearly every day (including Mondays), I had exhausted all possible titles depicting lousy Mondays. So my new official rule for Monday posts is to come up with a title that has absolutely NOTHING to do with Mondays or how sucky they are, hence the random title for today's post. We're in the middle of a heat wave here in good ol' Central North Carolina today...right now, according to my handy weather thingy on my task bar, it's 93 degrees outside and we have an orange ozone warning. That means that if you go outside, you will die. It's true! I ventured out a little earlier and almost dropped dead on the spot! Luckily, I was able to make my way back inside before TOO much damage had been done. Of course, I've still got a BITCH of a headache, but I think I'll survive once I get some allergy medication in me. The bad news is that I'm going to have to try and get back outside a little later so that I can try and fix the a/c on my truck!! Hopefully I won't be vaporized in the attempt! Still no word from the new job.....yes, I'm more than a little frustrated about that, but given the fact that being frustrated isn't going to speed things up, I'm having to learn really fast how to just sit back and chill. Not an easy task for someone who has NO patience whatsoever. Well, that's about it for today....if I survive the attempt to fix the a/c on the truck, I'm sure I'll be back in later! If not....well...remember me fondly! | | Posted by Bry_M at 2:37 PM -

Ok, so here's the assignment....write a letter to yourself. Wait, though...it's not that simple. The letter you write to yourself has to be from your FUTURE self! I saw it on a blog not long ago and I thought it'd be kind of interesting, so I did it. Here's mine: June 17, 2027 Hi Bry! Ok, so I realize that you’re a little skeptical about receiving this letter from me (you), but you’ve always known that anything is possible in this world! I would’ve done this sooner, but the law forbidding communication with one’s past self was only just repealed this past year. Ever since that guy down in Texas travelled back and won the lottery for himself back in 2012, they’d outlawed that sort of thing here…now you just have to have a passport and itinerary to time travel, and of course letters are screened. It’s ok though…as we’ve all learned, sometimes knowing EVERYTHING about the future is NOT a good thing! There ARE some things that I can tell you about the future, though… First of all, stop fretting about the job! Good Lord, boy…I’d almost forgotten what a worrywart you were back in those days! Everything works out just the way that it’s supposed to! You’ve always had the brains and the guts to take care of yourself and the time you’re living in right now is no exception to that rule. Just sit tight and stop worrying so much. Your worries about career and money are just about over..you just have to be patient. Also, you can rest assured that God cut you a break where the family is concerned. Everyone that you know and love in your time is still kicking and just fine in my time. In fact, Angie and Ben retired a few years back and moved to Orlando to be closer to Eli. He decided to move there after he became president of the Disney company. That’s a long story that I won’t go into right now. Just know that he’s happy, healthy, and yes..you ARE his favorite uncle! Kenny and Sheryl are doing fine too..even after 20 years of marriage they’re still acting like they’re on their honeymoon! Once the kids grew up and moved out, they bought a condo down at Myrtle Beach and they spend their days playing golf and fishing. Poor Kenny still can’t catch a fish to save his life, but at least he has fun trying! Cousin Chris is doing ok…I know you were worried about him for a long time. Once he lost his job at the tire plant, it finally occurred to him that he needed to grow up a bit. Yeah, he had to sell the boat and the car to get back on his feet, but he finally did find a good job, and if you can believe this, he didn’t miss a day of work for over FIVE years! He’s only got a few more years until he’s ready to retire, but he’s been smart about saving his money and investing it wisely, so he’ll be just fine. You’ll also be happy to know that once her divorce was final, Aunt Sandy finally decided to move to North Carolina…turns out that was a good thing because the third time was a charm for her. She ended up marrying one of the wealthiest real estate brokers in the state. She’s FINALLY happy…and she hasn’t had to work since she left hubby #2!! Finally, I know that in your time, you and a lot of other people in the world have been wondering if the country will ever recover from 8 years of Communism at the hands of George Bush. Well, you can rest easy. Once he left office and was subsequently tried and convicted for war crimes (among other things!), he was banished to a Mexican rain forest and hasn’t been heard from since. It took Hilary Clinton almost 3 years of her first term in office to get things right, but she did it. Yeah, the first thing she did was eliminate the ridiculous gas prices. In fact, during the last few years that gas was actually used to fuel cars, prices dropped to prices that hadn’t been seen since the 1950s! Of course now –a-days, vehicles don’t need gas…someone finally used some common sense and developed a car that not only flies, but uses air as a propulsion system. Pretty cool, huh? Well, it’s about time to sign off for now. I’m a bit tired of using a keyboard to compose this message. I’m lucky I even found one that still works! I’d almost forgotten how difficult it was to use one of these things…in my time, there’s no such thing as typing…everything is done by voice command or just thinking about it! So hang in there…good things are waiting for you in the future! ************************************************************************** I wanted to go into a little more detail, but frankly I found it a bit difficult to imagine how I'll be in 20 years! Well, that's it for tonight folks...I'm actually a bit pooped so I may turn in early tonight! | | Posted by Bry_M at 8:48 PM -

I just looked at the weather icon on my taskbar and all I can see is a thermometer with little red squiggly heat lines coming off of it...which of course means that we're in for another typical North Carolina late spring day around here! The temperature is going to be 94~YIKES~ It has the same little icon for tomorrow as well! ZOIKS! Tomorrow it's going to be 97! Now you have to remember that's just the temperature...it doesn't include the humidity.... Gotta love living in the south, huh? I think that I'll just enjoy it from the comfort of my air conditioned living room! Sheesh! Pretty soon, I'm going to be doing the dreaded car shopping. I have no other choice...it seems that the clutch on my truck's a/c compressor isn't working, which of course means that the compressor itself is shot. That means no a/c. No a/c in the vehicle means BryM is in a VERY bad mood when he drives! It also makes him refer to himself in the third person!! I got a call at the crack of dawn this morning (9 a.m.!) from cousin...seems he's taking the boat out to the lake today and wanted me to come along....read my first paragraph and you'll know why I didn't even answer the phone. Do I want to go out on the lake in a boat on a day like today? No thank you. Well, time to go eat some jalapeno poppers for lunch! Yum! Since I'm off today, I'll be lurking around, peeping in windows (Bella and Candy, I hope you're not decent! hehe) and dropping comments like little turds in the yard! | | Posted by Bry_M at 12:02 PM -
