THIS SIDE OF 40: Life With BryM

 No Post?

Yes, it's late.

I admit, I was a complete slacker today. When I got home from work, I actually ended up laying down on the couch and the next thing I knew it was an hour and a half later. I guess pushing those buttons on the keyboard at work just wore me out! Does anyone remember when George Jetson used to get 'push button finger'?! Well, that's me. SmileyCentral.com

Oh get this...it seems that a 75 year old man who lives just up the road from me was attempting to pull down a tree today with his tractor. He tied a chain to the tree, hooked it to his tractor, and took off. The results were less than favorable. The tree fell on him and his tractor. SmileyCentral.com
Yes, he was squished and died right there on the spot. The news crew was out there and everything.

So...opinion poll...how does everyone like my new smilies? I found this thing called "Smiley Central"...not that there's anything wrong with the smilies thing here on blogstream, but the new ones are a bit more versatile. I hope they're not too over the top for y'all out there though!

Well, that's a wrap for tonight. It's time for bed.

 Insurance Hypocrites

Today, my roommate Chris called his insurance company to see if they would cover a medication that will help him stop smoking. This medication is REALLY good...it's already helped my cousin quit as well as a lot of his co-workers.

It's not that I'm surprised by their answer, just really PISSED. Of course, the insurance company said that "it's not covered."

Now, for the last few years, especially since George Bush did away with any laws governing big business, the insurance companies have been crying in their coffee saying that "due to increased costs caused by those who smoke, and the cute little animated commercials from drug companies, we have to double your rates."

So, not that I'd actually expect anyone at an insurance company to have any common sense, but if there is a medication out there that is quickly proving to help people stop smoking, thereby lowering these costs that "concern" the insurance companies SO much, why then would they not cover the cost of it??!!

I'll give another example of the stupidity of an insurance company. Back when I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004, it was pretty simple to get insurance to cover it. That was Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois. When I dropped that plan a year later and then applied for insurance with BCBS of North Carolina, I was quoted a price of $895 a month because I'd had the surgery. Even though my health was BETTER than it had EVER been as a direct RESULT of the surgery!

I feel very sorry for anyone who works for an insurance company. I'd be afraid of people waiting for me after work ready to pelt me with garbage!

Ugh. Ok, I'm getting off my soapbox now. I think I'm going to go and light up a cigarette and blow the smoke into an insurance company worker's face.

 Life: With BryM....The TV Show??

I may regret doing this, but I've signed up for something called "BlogTV"...it's pretty much what the name implies...it's a live broadcast of yours truly. Well, there are other people on there too, but you know what I mean! Shows can also be recorded, which is a good thing because there are actually times that I'm NOT at my computer...few as they may be!

So, anyone who wants to check it out, I'll post the link below. The name of the show is the same as the title of my blog. And no, I'm not going to get nekkid on camera for anyone!

www.blogtv.com

*Note: You don't have to sign up to watch the shows on the site, but if you want to chat while watching, you do have to sign up. Signing up doesn't mean that you have to do a show, though.

 Adulthood = Geekdom?

There are times that I do things and wonder, "if the guy I was 20 years ago could see me now, what would he think?" .....such was the case recently when the roomie and I went to his mom and dad's house for dinner. It seems that they had gotten something called 'ear candles', and were anxious for someone (besides them!) to give them a try. The purpose of these 'ear candles' is to loosen and remove any wax that remains in deep in the ear canal. This is accomplished by setting one end on fire while the other end is stuck down in your ear canal.

Yeah, what better way to spend a Sunday evening after dinner? So I, along with the roomie and his sister in law, gave it a whirl.

We even took pictures. My 17 year old self would just shake his head and walk away.

 The New Desk and a Day Without Joe

It was a pretty decent day at work today.....

It started out with the news that I didn't have to sit with Joe today. Upon hearing that glorious news, a bright light came beaming down from the heavens, and I could almost hear the angels singing. It turns out that Joe had been selected to have some visitors of the office come and sit with him today. Of course, that meant that even though today was 'casual Friday' (meaning jeans and sneakers) Joe was wearing his suit again. That in itself isn't all that unusual for him except for the fact that he'd specifically asked yesterday if he SHOULD wear a suit for the occasion and was told "NO"...the guests weren't of any major importance. I had to chuckle to myself when I walked by him...what kind of a dweeb wears a suit when he doesn't HAVE to? I did feel sorry for the visitors that had to sit with him though. One guy was comatose within minutes!

After lunch, I was told by my supervisor that my new desk will be ready on Monday. I was elated, but unfortunately, I won't be able to utilize said desk for at least another few weeks because Monday starts my "official" training class. At least I'll know I have a home when I come back to the work area...a home WITHOUT Joe breathing down my neck!!

----> In other news.....

Did anyone see the interview with Tammy Faye Messner from the Larry King Live show?? OH MY GOD!! That poor lady! She's only 65 pounds now because of the cancer she's got. It's pretty obvious looking at her that she's not got a whole lot longer in this life. I know that there are probably people out there who would still criticize her for her role in the whole "PTL/Jim Bakker" scandal back in the 1980s, but I will give her credit...she really has tried over the last several years to make up for her past mistakes. Even if she hadn't, though, she still wouldn't deserve the agony that she's in now.

---->

I've got to thank all my Blogstream ladies who complimented me on my new profile picture! Y'all know how to make a fella feel pretty good!

---->

Speaking of ladies....I read something interesting in an old edition of Reader's Digest today....did you know that within 24 hours of being born that a baby remembers the smell of their mother's nipples? It's a fact.

On that note, I'm signing off for tonight. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
