THIS SIDE OF 40: Life With BryM

Things to do When You're Bored

So you're sitting at home one day bored out of your gourd. There's nothing on TV, no one to go and visit, and no one coming over to visit. What to do, what to do?? Well, to help cure the disease of boredom, here are some helpful suggestions:

1) Pick a random name out of the phone book, then proceed to tell whoever answers the phone that you'd read their ad in the paper saying that they'd found your beloved cat named Sir Whiskers. Then start crying when that person tells you that they don't have your cat and accuse them of holding poor Sir Whiskers for ransom!

2) Knock on your neighbor's door and ask them if you can come in for a visit. Once inside, start changing their furniture around and then inform them they'll be getting your bill in a few days as you walk out the door.

3) Go to your local grocery store and fill up two shopping carts with food. When the cashier is done ringing it all up, look at her with bewilderment when she gives you the total and announce that you only have a few bits of string and a button to pay for your groceries!

4) Call up a local restaurant and tell whomever answers that you're calling from a table in the dining room on your cell phone. Tell the employee that you just spotted a rat running around on the floor!

5) Put a ski mask on and then drive to the bank where you do business. Go inside and make a deposit into your account, and when the teller looks at you nervously, explain to her that you're so ugly that you have to wear a mask in public. Bid her adieu and then leave.

6) Call your local Home Depot store and ask them for the number to Lowe's.

7) Go hang out at the mall and as people pass by you, tell them "you sat in something"....

8) Walk around your neighborhood handing out blank sheets of paper telling your neighbors that you've lost your invisible dog and that his picture is on this piece of paper.

9) Call the high school you attended and ask to speak to your former English teacher. When he or she answers the phone, tell them that you've found that missing term paper they assigned you to write back in the 11th grade and you want to turn it in for grading.

10) Go to your local Walmart store, find the closest phone and then make the following page: "Attention shoppers..for the next five minutes, we'll be giving away all items priced over $1!

Trust me when I tell you that your boredom will most definitely go away if you try these suggestions!!

Have a great week ahead everyone!

 The Late Late Late Show

Ok, so TECHNICALLY it's Sunday, but it's only a little after midnight, so we'll still count this as Saturday's post!

The day started out somewhat boring...I woke up at 8:30 in the morning..something I ((REALLY)) didn't want to do, and I ended up paying for it later! There's nothing more annoying than being woken up earlier than you want to wake up and then be subjected to the horrible cartoons that dominate Saturday morning tv these days! No, there were no children present in my house...my 37 year old roommate watches them. Children love him because he's up on the very latest adventures of Pokemon and such. Sheesh.

So around noon, I laid down on the couch in the living room...this couch has a built in sedative because every time I sit or lay down on it, I go to sleep! Yeah, it's REALLY that comfortable. Unfortunately, I'm one of those that after having taken a nap, I feel like shit when I wake up! So I spent the next few hours walking around in a daze along with a horrible headache.

Then the cousin calls and talks me and the roomie into coming down to his house this evening. The roomie of course brings along his supply of alcohol and proceeds to get snockered. At least this time he kept his faculties about him and didn't do something embarrassing! The last time he got drunk over at the cousin's house, he almost fell down the front steps and then had to pee in their driveway!! Oh well. Better him make an ass of himself than ME!

I'm wondering...has anyone here tried that "Wanderly" thing that Blogstream is sponsoring? I can't remember if I have signed up for it or not. Hmmmm....

Well, that's about it for tonight. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

It's Finally Friday ...and I'm No Longer Homeless!

Well, another week has closed...and not a moment too soon! It's not been a great week either at home or at work!

>>Chris the roomie and I are having dinner this weekend with our neighbors Kevin and Cindy. You may remember that Kevin is the guy who was just told he's got only a few more weeks to live. As much as I look forward to Cindy's awesome cooking, it's still going to be extremely hard for me to go over there. The only thing I'll be able to think of is the fact that it may be the last time that all of us have dinner together. As anyone can probably guess, I don't do death very well at all.

>>I'm REALLY feeling some frustration at work lately. I'm the kind of person who needs some structure when I'm trying to learn a new job, and my company is falling WAY short in that department. I still think that it's a great company and an awesome job, but I just wish that they'd decide what they're going to do with me...so far I've been just sort of bouncing around from one area to another. ("Area" is the acronym that we use to define the parts of the country that we service. Each person is normally assigned their own area...but I have yet to get mine.

>>Speaking of work, and bouncing around....I'd finally gotten my own desk at work and I was VERY happy about that! Well, yesterday the powers that be decided to move me to another desk on a "temporary" basis...but today I found out that where I'm at now is my permanent desk! Hey, the little things excite me..what can I say??

>>My niece is upset with me because she somehow got deleted off of my "friends list" on my MySpace page. Ahhh, the joys of overly emotional 13 year olds!

Well, that's about it for now. Have a good weekend everyone!

 The Big Move

I have decided I'm moving to Alaska. While I agree that it may be a bit dangerous because of the risk of being trampled by a herd of rampaging moose (hmm...or is that "mooses"? ...or maybe meese?)...I feel it's necessary because I'm really sick of sizzling like a piece of bacon on the griddle!

I already have a plan for my new life in Alaska:

--->I shall marry an Eskimo woman named Nanook, and we will build a nice home made of blocks of ice. It will be located on top of a glacier.

--->Nanook and I shall produce 3 children, and their names will be Jenovia, Aloiscious, and Joe.

--->My new family will adopt an orphaned seal, and his name will be Claude.

--->Christine the Truck will be but a distant memory for me, because my mode of transportation will be an aging killer whale, whom I will affectionately call Bruce.

--->I will mingle with the locals and they will dub me "BryM of the Frozen Tundra"....

I think it's a pretty well laid out plan!!

Well, that's it for now. I'm looking at the weather thing on my computer...looks like here in North Carolina we're about to get a blast of frigid air: it's only going to be 99 degrees tomorrow!!

 The DAY!

First, I'd like to thank all of you out there who were so nice in your comments about my blog entry last night. It really meant a lot to me! As promised, I am definitely in a better place today...

So here's MY day:

It started out ok...until I walked out the door and was hit square in the face by a blast of heat and humidity. Did I mention that it was only 7:30 a.m. and the temperature was already above 80 degrees??!! Thank GOD I got Christine the Truck's air conditioner fixed or I'd be a puddle on the ground right now!

So I get to work and go to the training area where class had been held for the last three weeks. The final exam was yesterday so I just had to stop by to get my grade. My grade sucked!! I was more than a little disappointed and just a bit miffed at the whole thing. The questions that I got "wrong" were only marked as such because I didn't "word" my answer exactly as I should have. In other words, the instructor nit-picked. The thing about that is that the questions were worded in such a way that even someone who's been there for years would have to scratch his head, but since it doesn't affect my job status, I just let it go.

After the brief meeting in the classroom, I headed upstairs to start working...that's when the day went from bad to worse. My supervisor informs me that he's moving me to another desk, but only for a few weeks. SOOOO...after having spent time setting up my desk and getting acclimated to the set up, I had to pack up my things and move to another side of the floor. So after a couple of weeks of my new desk, I'll have to move BACK to the old one again!! GAAAAHHHH!!!

I spent the better part of an hour settling into my new desk..the previous occupant had deleted a lot of necessary functions off of the computer and had just left a mess in general.

After a few hours, I started noticing something that I hadn't noticed in this office before...it was hot! Now, keep in mind that I work on the second floor of an office building that has windows that don't open! Turns out that the a/c unit for our floor had just up and died!! So the floor manager went to Wally World and bought 60 box fans for us. Oh, and did I mention that it was OVER 100 degrees today??!! Needless to say, it was NOT a very pleasant experience for any of us. We're lucky though that we have a floor manager that gives a damn about all of us!

If THAT wasn't enough, I made some pretty stupid mistakes on some of my work which made me feel like a complete dumbass! Of course, my luck being what it is, the mistakes that I'd made just HAD to be right in front of him!!! I know I shouldn't be so hard on myself, but I just have this perfection complex I guess. I expect a LOT more out of myself than what others expect of me. What makes that situation even worse is the fact that I did this same type of job for five years!

After all that, I was informed that I'll now be working 10a-7p Monday thru Friday. At first I was like, "YUCK", but then I considered the advantages of that kind of shift, mainly NO TRAFFIC to deal with!! So I'm ok with the shift change.

Well, that's it for tonight. I hope everyone has a great night..and for those of you who are suffering in the same kind of heat as we are here in NC, plop down in front of the a/c and don't move!!
