 The New Look

Ok...
I finally decided on a new look for the blog. The first one reminded me of intestines, so it had to go...before it made ME have to GO. Get it?

Hmm. Ok, well. On to other things:

It's been for the most part a pretty uneventful day. I've not done much of anything. I decided to just stay inside and veg! It's nice to do that sometimes. I had the whole house all to myself because the roomie had to work all day. Awww. Poor him. He's off tomorrow, so I'm sure I won't have any peace and quiet...he's likely to get into one of his Donna Reed modes and want to clean something..which usually means he wants ME to participate. Or worse..he'll want to do yard work! Sorry bud, I've done enough of that for the foreseeable future!!

That's it for now. Let me know what ya think of the new look!

 Ahhh...Saturday, Plus Some Other Stuff

For as long as I can remember, Saturday has always been one of my most favorite days of the week:

>>as a child, I'd wake up literally at the crack of dawn to watch my cartoons...Scooby Doo was my favorite. Daphne was pretty hot for a cartoon babe! I was so upset when they brought Scrappy Doo on though..that little fucker was so annoying. Almost as much as Scooby Dum!

>>as a teenager, my "date night" was always on Saturdays. I figured that it'd be easier to get me some if the date was well rested. I'd found out the hard way that girls are less likely to put out after a long day at school!

>>as I became an adult, Saturday lost a little of its punch for me because I always seemed to have jobs that required Saturday work. No worries though because I just started hanging with people who had the same screwed up hours as me!

>>now that I'm approaching middle age, having Saturdays off is more critical than ever. Saturdays are the day that I can play around with my architecture program and do the whole internet surfing thing. The dates are fewer and farther between, but that's ok. I can live vicariously through internet porn! SmileyCentral.com

************************************

Other Stuff:

>>my roommate is insane. when he decided to cut costs, he had his cell phone service canceled. Well that would be all well and good except for the fact that I was on his plan!!! (I should have suggested refinancing the $25,000 truck he drives if he wanted to cut costs!) No, getting my own plan is not under consideration...since my FICO sucks, I'd be required to pay $300-$500 as a "deposit". That having been said, I went to Walmart to check out the prepaid things like Tracfone...what a freakin rip off!! The phone is only $19, but the cards to buy more time are $20 - $100!! Not to mention the fact that I'd have to REMEMBER to reload the damn thing...that in itself is a task!! Not only that, but the phones are ugly and don't look very durable! Besides, I've already GOT a phone..I don't need yet another one laying around. I'd surely get mixed up as to which one was live!!

>>I'm loving this show on A&E called "Flip That House" or something like that. I think the guys who "star" in the shows switches up from week to week, but one of the guys is based out of Charleston, SC. It's neat to watch the show and see various places around Charleston...I lived there several years ago and absolutely LOVED it!!

>>while taking my shower this morning, I almost had a fatal mishap: as I was washing my hair, I looked up on the ceiling over the shower and saw a tarantula perched on the ceiling!! You all are surely aware that I'm deathly afraid of spiders, so you can imagine my reaction!! My first reaction was to scream like a bitch..and then get the hell out of the shower. As fate would have it, this was the ONE time in over 4 years of living in this house that the sliding glass doors on the shower stall failed to work properly!! It was like a scene out of a horror movie..the spider had clearly gotten pissed off because I screamed in his ear, so he was on his way down to have lunch! Meanwhile, I'm trying like hell to keep an eye on the spider and make my escape! I felt like the weak little woman in horror movies who takes off running from the serial killer and is doing fine until she twists her ankle and falls to the ground just in time for the serial killer to arrive and cut her throat!! I got the door open just in time! As I hopped (literally!) out of the shower, the spider had made it to where my head had been just nanoseconds before! I know it may sound crazy, but I could swear I heard him say, "DRATS! Another one got away!!"

>>I got a rather strange Instant Message this afternoon..it seems that this young lady had seen my picture on my Yahoo profile and decided it'd be a good idea to tell me all of the things she wanted to do to me...one scenario had me tied to the bed while she teased me with an ice cube. Needless to say, the picture has been removed from my profile!!

>>I saw the best movie tonight. It was called Departed (?)...it had Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Martin Sheen. It was a GREAT movie..although it would have been BETTER had my roomie and my cousin not chit-chatted through the whole damn thing! After the movie was over, the roomie had the NERVE to tell me he was confused about the storyline..I told him if he'd have shut up and watched the movie, he'd have understood the plot!!

Well, that's about it for tonight!

Some Experiences Are Real Lessons in Life

I mentioned in last night's post that a co-worker of mine and I did something really nice for another co-worker. I didn't get into a lot of detail because frankly I was pooped. I've got a bit more energy tonight, so I want to share the whole experience.

"Joe", who's the kind of guy who wears a three piece suit to work just for the fun of it was a big thorn in my side when I first started this job. Not that he's a jerk or anything, but just very "by the book", and a "company man"...very annoying to say the least. Nice guy, just not the kind of person that I'd have ever thought I'd associate with outside of work.

Anyway, the other day he tells me that he's got an idea. He wants the two of us to help out a co-worker. We'll call her "Sue". I knew that Sue was a single mom, but Joe tells me that she's been struggling a lot lately with the upkeep of the house she'd just bought. The fact that she'd even gotten approved for the loan was a miracle in itself, but she was very proud of the place and was a bit bummed because she hadn't had the time to do anything to the yard. Keeping up with a 19 month old child doesn't afford much of an opportunity to do a lot of mowing or weeding! So I thought it was a great idea and I told Joe to count me in.

I come home and tell the roomie about what Joe and I have planned, and he offers to help. That was a good thing because to be quite honest, I despise doing yardwork. I mean REALLY DESPISE it. So I knew that if the roomie was there, he'd want to do most of the work.

So the roomie and I arrive at Sue's house yesterday after work. He breaks out the weed eater and I get the lawn mower. Did I mention that Sue has an ACRE of land with her house? Did I also mention that Sue's lawnmower was a PUSH mower? Yes, I was in hell.

All of a sudden, the clouds opened up and a flock of angels bathed in a most brilliant light came down upon me. They granted me a miracle. The lawn mower was SELF PROPELLED!!!! It was almost as heavenly of an experience as going to Lowe's AND Home Depot with a credit card that has no limit! You guys out there know exactly what I mean.

Anyway, as I'm gliding, nay..FROLICKING along while mowing the lawn, I notice that Joe hasn't arrived as of yet. He was well over 45 minutes late! The little shit had not shown!! Luckily, about the same time I was plotting his untimely demise, he showed up. Sue had given him directions, but left out a few forks in the road coming to her house. Literally. He'd come to a fork in the road and took the wrong one and gotten lost.

It was a funny thing when Sue asked me why I wasn't even breaking a sweat while mowing. She told me that she'd mowed a week ago and had one hell of a time pushing the mower. Turns out, she had NO idea what a self-propelled mower is. She'd not engaged the mechanism, thus making it like pushing a Buick across the yard! Not to mention the fact that she'd had the wheels raised a good six inches off the ground!! Sorry, but I had to chuckle!

So we FINALLY get done well after dark. It's not easy mowing by moon and flood light, but we got it done! Sue was very appreciative to say the least. She was SO happy that her yard looked decent! She was also relieved that she'd been told how to work the mower too!

Anyone who's read my blog lately knows how down and out I've felt lately, but after having done something to help this girl out, I felt better than I have in a LONG time! It's amazing how something so simple as mowing the lawn for someone can be such an amazing experience..for the simple fact that you've helped someone who needed it.

Now for the not so great part. Sue is still in "temp" status at work. Everyone in the group that I trained with got an offer to go permanent..except for Sue. At least as of yet she's not gotten an official offer...I'm praying she gets one next week, because if she doesn't get the perm status, she may very well lose her job altogether! She cried on and off all day about it. I felt so horrible for her. If everyone out there could say a little prayer for her it'd be greatly appreciated.

So that's about all for tonight. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!

 Thursday Tidbits

--->> It's official as of September 10th. I've got PERMANENT status at my job!! SmileyCentral.com

I was getting a little concerned because I hadn't gotten the links to the official offer in my email at work, so I wrote to Human Resources and asked what was going on. Well, as it turns out they were having problems with getting it to my work email, so they sent it to my HOME email!! SHEESH!!

I ended up with a halfway decent deal...the money turned out to be pretty much where I needed it to be, but as you all know, I was a bit concerned about the shift....someone must have been watching out for me because I got a pretty good one! It's 9a-6p Monday thru Friday! Yay!! NO WEEKENDS!!!!

--->> On a sad note, there is one girl at work who probably isn't going to get the permanent position. I feel so bad for her. She's a single mom who's struggling as it is, so not getting the extra money is REALLY going to hurt her!

--->> Speaking of that girl, you all will NEVER believe this! Remember "Joe"..the guy at work who drove me nuts? Well, turns out he's not a bad guy..."Joe" volunteered he and I to help this girl out by going over and doing some yard work for her! It felt SO good to finally be in a position to help someone ELSE!! Come to find out, this girl is REALLY in a dire financial situation...she has NO furniture in her house except for a bed, a tv, and her computer. I felt SO bad for her when I saw that..she doesn't even have a couch in her living room! Of course this has now put me on a mission...to find some furniture for this girl!!

--->> My aunt who just took the job with the moving company? I called her this evening. She answered the phone in this weak little voice...it seems that she's a bit pooped after her first day on the new job! Poor thing...I'm not sure how long she's going to last on this thing! At least she's trying though..that's the important thing.

Well, that's about all for tonight. I wasn't planning on posting tonight, but I had to share the good news!

 The Offer

Well, I was all set to let you all out there know what the "OFFER" consisted of...

Unfortunately though, the lady who puts the stuff together and then emails it out got behind in her work today and I'm not getting all of the details until tomorrow! SmileyCentral.com

Here's what I do know so far:
--->> The shift may or may NOT be what I'd said earlier. Turns out that it could be somewhat NORMAL, such as 8a-5p, 9a-6p or something along those lines, and more than likely with no weekends involved!

--->> The money at minimum is within an acceptable range for me, so I'm VERY happy about that!

Just a bit of "you'd never believe this":

Ever wondered why healthcare is so damned expensive? In one instance, the cost of a guy coming out to fix a machine at a hospital or dr's office after 5pm can run upwards of $2,000! Over $400 an hour for an after hours service...with a 4 hour minimum!! Without a contract, the price is even higher, PLUS an additional hourly rate!! Can you say, "YIKES"????!!!!

Well, that's all for now. Have a good night everyone!
