THIS SIDE OF 40: Life With BryM
Tuesday February 26, 2008
I'm a tad disappointed this evening. Last night I talked about the bitches and their antics yesterday at work. I also detailed a rather elaborate plan for payback, which was set in to motion today. I guess that the plan was a little TOO well planned because Phase 1 brought them to their knees in less than an 8 hour workday! *sigh Anyway, as I'd said last night, complete silence was my best weapon. It drove them BONKERS!! I didn't speak to anyone unless I was specifically addressed..and then I only responded when it was about work. Of course, I also owe part of the credit to my boss..he had some "conferences" today that involved all of them, and some new rules were put into effect that will put them into a tailspin should they be out for any length of time! I on the other hand will not be affected by these new rules because I'm somewhat more proactive with work that is due in the future. I'm still pissed, and I'm still sticking by what I said last night. I've been burned too many times now to leg my guard down again. ELSEWHERE IN MY WORLD:
It looks like Chris and Cindy will be taking a trip to Colorado this summer. She wanted both of us to go, but I declined for a couple of different reasons...the first being that I have NO desire to get on an airplane, and the second being that I have a dog & cat that can't be left alone for a week. Kenneling them is not an option due to price & the fact that I just don't trust putting them into the care of someone else for any length of time.
Christine the Truck is at it again. Nothing serious this time--just annoying. Anyone who's familiar with the old body style of Nissan Frontiers will remember the plastic doohickeys on the front of the hood...they're sort of a vent looking thing. Well, being Nissan, of course these pieces are plastic. Today as I was getting ready to leave work my oil light came on, indicating that I was a quart low, so I popped the hood to put the oil in....as I did, one of these plastic pieces just fell out. *sigh
Get this--my nephew Eli has FINALLY learned how to say my name!! Now if I could just get him to learn how to say UNCLE!! I waited 36 years for that title damnit!!
I got in the mail today the SECOND new modem for the internet service. This one worked--a lucky thing for the phone company. I shudder to think of what I would have said to them given the horrible week I've had already! So it looks like the internet woes may finally be over....we'll see though. That's it for now! Have a good hump day tomorrow!

When I write about my day at work, it is usually one of a handful of different scenarios---
--> an annoying but bearable day, usually due to ignorant customers or field personnel;
--> frustrating because I've had to take responsibility for something I had nothing to do with;
--> light hearted because of topics of discussion amongst my co-workers & myself;
--> downright crappy for any number of reasons;
Whatever the case may be, I come home and write about it and then it's gone. By the next morning all is back to normal and a new day begins & goes however it's going to go.
That has all changed as of today. I've been hinting for quite some time (both here and in "real life") that I was close to my breaking point with these people at work, and today I finally reached it.
Here's the story:
"Conchetta" had decided to take the day off, which meant that I had to keep an eye on her area for the day. Even given the fact that I have a hard enough time keeping up with my OWN work, I still at least try my best to keep her area from crumbling while she's gone. Today was one of those days that the usual "drop what you're doing and do THIS" scenario kept happening. One such instance resulted in a task for Conchetta's area not being done.
So Conchetta decides to come to work after all at about 2pm--now this task that I hadn't done wasn't something that was not going to GET done, but it just wasn't done by the time that she would have normally had it done. Before I can even get her attention to let her know what had happened, she leaps up from her chair and starts making this huge scene--raising hell, cussing, bitching, & something she should NEVER have done--talking smack about me as though I wasn't sitting 12 inches from her.
The more that hen clucked, the madder I got. She kept on and on and on and on and on....something that is NOT a good idea to do when I'm that angry. Oh...NOT NOT NOT a good idea at ALL.
It was bad enough that she wouldn't shut her beak when she should have. Given a little time, I could have gotten over today's episode and things could have been back to normal by the middle of the week or so.
But then the other hens had to stick their pointed little beaks into it.
Conchetta: "It not fair--why I have to do work when someone out or no here for some reason but then THAT person no have to do MY work?"
Remember--I'm sitting a mere foot from her.
The other bitches sit about the same distance from me.
"Oh, I know--it's just AWFUL!" ....."It isn't right that YOU do so much while OTHERS get away with doing NOTHING!"....."If I were you, I'd not stop until I got something done about it"......
These were just a few of the little remarks going back and forth...literally right over my head...and in front of my face.
My contribution to the mayhem was silence. Complete silence. I responded only to questions asked directly to me about specific work related subjects only. Yes, I'm aware that infuriated Conchetta & the other hens.
Things were JUST about to quiet down when the bitch who sits behind me (the one who gave so much shit when one of the girls had to leave when her dr's office called and said she had a tumor on her liver) turns around and says, "you know that Conchetta was talking about you right?"
Yeah--she's the instigator of the group. She's also going to be the first to find out what a son of a bitch I can be.
Of course, being the creative person that I am, my plan will go in phases.
Phase 1: No non-work related conversations with these women again. Specifically work related conversations that pertain to MY area only. All other attempts at conversation will be met with a blank stare, which I'm actually very good at.
Phase 2: Hawk watching. This means that I will scrutinize the very letter of everything that these bitches do that directly pertains to their job and/or my job. The slightest variance from written procedure will result in my going straight to the supervisor with a full report.
Phase 3: Putting the "I" in "team". This is where it will be the most fun for me! I have 80 hours of personal time; 80 hours of vacation; 40 hours of 'flex time', and am allowed 6 instances of absence per 90 days before any "points" are given. I will be averaging at least three days per month off for various reasons--thus leaving the bitches to carry the load by themselves during my time away. The kicker is that I take care of pertinent things BEFORE I take a day off, meaning that they will have NO WAY to screw me over while I'm out. Anything they'll be responsible for will be immediate and will be their responsibility to take care of. Not mine.
Now before anyone says it, NO, none of the bitches will be able to retaliate by taking their time off, because only Conchetta's abscenses affect me--and by this time she'll have fixed it to where I won't be left with her area while she's gone.
So-- There we have it. The end of the work stories--or at least the ones pertaining to anything worthy of getting a chuckle over.
That's all I've got for now. G'nite

Today was one of those days that was choc-full of surprises: 1) The whole bonfire thing in my back yard last night ended around 2a.m.---> so of course I was up until almost 5a.m. --->mainly because of the fact that I was still wound up, but also because I was a bit tipsy....anyway, during my time up in the wee hours I had an online chat with my phone company. I'll now be credited for 2 month's worth of service because of the inconvenience! This was a good surprise!
2) After I was FINALLY tired enough to go to sleep, I had the most bizarre dream! It was actually more of a nightmare than a dream...ugh! So I woke up after about 2 hours....with a throbbing headache! I barely managed to climb back into bed after about 30 minutes and proceeded to have MORE bizarre dreams! I finally re-entered the land of the living around 11 this morning..with one bitch of a hang over! THIS was NOT a good suprise!
3) I got a voicemail from a friend of mine today--a call that I wasn't actually expecting! This was a GOOD surprise. The fact that I realized soon afterwards that I hadn't turned my phone off last night and my battery died was NOT a good surprise!
4) After I recovered from my hangover, I plopped in front of the tv to watch last night's episode of Knight Rider--and discovered that it was a rerun of the movie from last week. This was a HORRIBLE surprise! Damnit!
OTHER STUFF::: ---> I went shopping for rocking chairs for my new porch today. You'd be shocked at how expensive those damn things are!! Can you believe $88 at Lowe's??!! I did however find a nice set of windchimes that will look VERY good on the new porch!! ---> My internet is actually working well this evening! I hope I haven't jinxed myself by mentioning that!! I'm still switching to the cable stuff once they replace the needed equipment on my street. This situation just puts me into a complete anti-trust with the phone company! ---> My allergies have been giving me a fit today--not fun on top of a hangover--but did you know that taking two Benadryl will make you very relaxed..and sleepy??
That's all I've got for now--I'm off to bed. Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow!

Believe it or not, I'm actually NOT going to bitch about the internet drama going on lately! Shocking, I know!!
So, check this out: | Your Linguistic Profile: | 55% General American English
25% Dixie
10% Yankee
5% Upper Midwestern
0% Midwestern |
What Kind of American English Do You Speak?That was a little somethinsomethin I saw on BELLE's blog this evening.....I'm not surprised by the results, but anyone who heard my voice when I was doing the BlogTV thing would be shocked that someone with an accent as thick as mine would know ANY "Yankee" or "Midwestern" words!
My little subdivision was quite lively tonight--- The neighbors across the street had a party---since they're a couple in their mid-20's the party consisted of a gaggle of other 20somethings who are not yet ready to deal with the fact that they are out of high school, so they get drunk and make a LOT of noise in an attempt to recapture those carefree days....but they have to be done before 10:00pm because they left the baby with mom so they could go to the party! Meanwhile, my OTHER neighbor Todd decided that the party across the street needed a spin-off, so my yard was host to the bonfire. Let me define Todd's idea of a bonfire: a massive pile of tree branches, logs, & leaves....and a bottle of Jack Daniels. Since he's in his early 30s, Todd is a little less of a noise maker than the 20somethings across the street--however, he has a six year old son and a teenage step daughter who LOVE to 'hang' with the adults. Now don't get me wrong...they're nice kids and all, but there's times when the grown ups don't need the chitlins underfoot...especially when there's Jack Daniels & a huge fire involved! Y'all just have to trust me when I say that NOTHING kills a good buzz faster than a couple of screaming 13 year old girls (the daughter had a friend staying overnight) and a six year old!
Here's a new thing I'm going to start doing for my Saturday entries: THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK:1) Do not waste your time talking to a utility company on the phone when you have a problem with the utility's service. Find the closest office and go there in person. That way you can slap the hell out of whomever you're talking to when you realize that you've failed to get your point across. 2) I don't feel bad that I'm not in a high powered, high paying position in my company. If I were, it would be proof positive that I'm an idiot, because that is clearly a prerequisite for being a corporate big-wig. 3) There is no such thing as being 'tactful' when trying to let someone down easy, because that person will assume that you're only being polite because you're a doormat. 4) No matter how much I pray for it to happen, those of you up North are NOT going to stop sending your rejects down South! C'mon---we can deal with crazy, rude, & even stupid--but can't you at least give them a MAP when you send them down??!! 5) There really ARE women in this world who think that ALL men think with a certain part of their anatomy rather than their brain!
That's all I've got for now! Looks like my entries are going to be reserved for later evening-ish...that seems to be the only time when it's working worth a damn!

The internet saga continues..... The last time I talked to the phone company, they told me that my internet problem was with the modem so they sent out a new one. It arrived today so I figured I'd hook it up and see if things got any better...... I wish that I could say that it solved the problem lickety split--but I can't. You see, the brand new modem that I received in the mail today DOES NOT WORK. I was BEYOND FURIOUS. I called up the phone company and before the lady who answered the phone took a breath I had already mowed her down as if I had a machine gun! That poor thing had NO idea what to say after I was done blasting! So after we go over another round of stupid ass questions, she decides that I need another modem. DUH----YOU THINK??!!! And yes, that is EXACTLY what I said to her. I told her that if the next modem didn't work that I would chop all THREE of them up into little pieces and mail one piece to them every day until I got the internet fixed. Then I told her if THAT didn't work, I'd start ripping out the phone jacks & wiring and send THAT back to them piece by piece!! All she could say was, "I'm so sorry for the inconvenience". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now I'm at the point where I'm waiting for the cable folks to get their act together while at the same time battling with the phone company in the meantime! I need a drink!! | | Posted by Bry_M at 9:56 PM - | |
