THIS SIDE OF 40: Life With BryM

 BRY-M'S FRIDAY ADVENTURES

To say that my day & evening was an adventure would be an understatement.....

My evaluation at work went pretty well, although there were a few tense moments between my boss and me...it started out tame enough, and then we got to the part where we had to talk about the last 6 months. Even that would have gone better had it not been for the fact that I was given just a WEE bit TOO MUCH information.

Yes, I know you're all saying, "DO TELL...."
So I will tell:

It seems that one of the biggest reasons that the powers-that-be out in the field are so "unhappy" with MY performance as opposed to my predecessor's is because **I** have the potential to prevent these boneheads from getting their bonus for 2007-08. Right about now you're all assuming that I'm talking about money....and I am...but money is only PART of the issue....because you see in addition to money these managers ALSO get a weekend in the Bahamas when their 'numbers' for the fiscal year are met.

[unfortunately there is no "WHAT THE FUCK??!!" icon on Smiley Central to put here, so you'll have to use your imagination!]

Yeah...that's what he said.
As soon as he said it, he knew that he'd said too much.
I asked him, "So if I start producing the numbers that THEY want, does that mean that *I* get a weekend in the islands??!!" Would anyone care to guess what the answer to THAT question was??!!

So here's the way that this shit over the past 7 months since I officially took over this position breaks down:

1) It's perfectly ok that the woman I replaced in this position was completely inept & insinuated there would be sexual favors to the guys in the field if they'd do HER job, because her "numbers" were satisfactory to the management in the field. So in order to get back into their good graces, I've apparently got to cut off BryM, Jr...bleach my hair...and spread my legs for the guys to get my 'numbers' up. For the record...NO...I'm not willing to do that....I'm WAY too fond of BryM, Jr to give him his walking papers!! What A Relief

2) Even though "PROCESS" dictates that I have a certain amount of appointments made every week, the "expectation" is that I *DOUBLE* the number of appointments required in the "process".

3) Regardless of the fact that I was pulled from my desk for a month after I'd only been doing the job for a week and NO ONE else filled in for me, it's still MY fault that things got in the horrible shape they were in for so long. It's a fact of life that even if I didn't CAUSE the problem & had NO control over it, I'm still responsible. Confused

Before anyone out there starts shaking their heads in disbelief and wonder why I'm still there after today, here's your answer:

Currently, the jobs in my office are broken down into several 'positions'.......one group answers the phone & makes up service orders for the field techs to go on; one group does what I do; one group does scheduling of equipment to be installed; and then one group that actually schedules the same day orders that come in. Well, as of the end of July, ALL of these rolls will be combined "to better serve the customer".....this scenario will not work for many different reasons, so as bad as these managers have it NOW...they haven't seen ANYTHING yet! Imagine roughly 150 people doing jobs that they have NO training in whatsoever!!

Shocked  Yes, this WILL end in disaster and I'm going to LAUGH MY ASS OFF when it DOES happen!!

To continue with my day's events:

---> The cousin ALMOST got caught by his wife this evening!! You'll recall that he's having an affair......well anyway, he's out with the mistress and the wife calls. Apparently she's gone out looking for him because she's convinced that he was with another woman.

SexyOf course, he WAS with this other woman but that's beside the point. So get this....he comes over to MY house so that he's got an alibi. The wife calls and tells him that she wants him home NOW. He heads home to the wife, has a huge argument with her and then leaves. He then ends up BACK at my house supposedly to spend the night. He stays for 20 minutes and then heads to the hotel where his mistress is staying!! Clearly the close call he had tonight wasn't enough to teach him anything!!

--> If all of THAT wasn't bad enough, when I got home from work I had a voicemail from the physical therapist's office wanting to know why I'd not shown for my appointment this morning!! DOH!! I'd completely forgotten about it!! This is the therapy I'm supposed to be taking for the vertigo I was diagnosed with!! Damnit!

So that was my day.....as always, never a dull moment!!

 EVALUATION TIME: GAAAAAAHHHHH!!

Every six months at work we get "evaluated" in a two step process. The first step is for the employee to go onto the intranet and fill out responses to how we think we're doing at meeting our "goals". Of course the tricky part is actually getting the damn page to load up in the first place! Our intranet SUCKS. Our internet browser is IE 6!!! Shocked [and 1,000.000 techies around the world simultaneously faint!]

Given the experiences I've had over the LAST six months, I was as kind as I could be about my "self evaluation"....but I was honest because I know this is part of my personnel file. I stated what the weaknesses were, but that perhaps those weaknesses could have been better eliminated had I been afforded some help before, during, and AFTER my training class!

So today was the day that my supervisor was making his rounds to give HIS evaluations on everyone. He wasn't in the best of moods because one of the questions that he poses is "are you using the new operating system?" [This thing is a piece of junk....] My friend Nightbug will understand this: it's a form of "CARS" but ass backwards! Anyway, everyone has been telling him that it sucks & it doesn't work as it's supposed to. Given the fact that my boss is one of the folks who helped develop this system, he's not been happy about this, so his mood was less than great all day. CEO

Naturally since my boss wasn't in the best of spirits today, this would be the ONE DAY that he comes up behind me and catches me reading a text message on my phone while I'm SUPPOSED to be hard at work! Damn It  He even threatened to take my phone away!! After THAT flew all over me [I am NOT in the 7th grade thank you!] I had to say, "you'll pry it out of my cold, dead fingers!"  Yeah, this was BEFORE word got back to me that he was doing evaluations today!

Thankfully, he didn't get around to ME until 5:30 this afternoon....just as I was leaving for the day!! I told him I couldn't stay because I had plans....so we'll start off with MY evaluation bright and early tomorrow morning!! My hope is that by the time he's had a good night's rest he'll show me some mercy!!

Now for another drama:

The cousin who went bonkers with all that money not long ago has decided that he's not happy being married anymore, so he's taken a mistress.

Damn. How 1895 did THAT sound??

Anyway, he's done the deed but NOW he's dealing with the fall out.....first of all, his wife suspects that something is going on....and given the fact that her FIRST husband cheated on her, she's NO dummy when it comes to her intuition in these matters!!

ALSO.....the 'mistress' has now fallen madly in love....or is that in "obsession"??!! After one night with the cousin, she's now contemplating moving to North Carolina to be closer to him.

Faint  So now comes the good part: the cousin says the mistress is "moving too fast" and he tried to enlist MY help in telling her not to come up this weekend to see him! No, I did NOT make that phone call by the way!!

Here's my view on the situation: the cousin only wanted a fling on the side and nothing more even though he SWEARS that's not what it was. Yeah right.

The thing is, he went about accomplishing this fling in a very stupid way. Instead of just getting online or going to a bar and picking someone up, he took the time to look for this girl on MySpace (they dated briefly in high school) and then began to pursue her. It'd been so long since they'd actually SEEN each other that the girl didn't even recognize the name OR the picture!

I warned the cousin not to do this-----here's the deal:

Cousin has inherited a family trait.......attracting fatal attractions!! One of his previous girlfriends (before the wife came along) went so nuts that she used to call him at least once an hour----THEN she tried to put sugar into his car's gas tank! Another nut job was the girl who used to cruise by his house whenever he wouldn't answer the phone!! Afraid

We'll see how THIS one plays out!!

That's about it for now!

 BRY-M: RETURN TO THE OFFICE

Ok, I know everyone is on pins and needles......
The email count when I got to work this morning was: [drum roll please].....[damnit Bella, I said DRUM ROLL, not JELLY ROLL!] ........ok, let's try this again.....[drum roll please].......[Heather, could you PLEASE hang up the cell phone?! I promist you, Scrawny is NOT about to jump out of the tree!] good lord people...work WITH me!!

Ok...once again....[DRUM ROLL......PLEASE!!!] Ok ok ok...that's IT!! Buffy---please tell your cat to stop breast feeding in the middle of the room---it's just not a pleasant thing to look at!

Damn.
Ok, the count was.......

61

I don't remember who was closest, but I believe it was Buffy.
So tell us Johnny, what has Buffy won?

"Well BryM, because she was closest to the actual retail number without going over, Buffy wins a brand new car!!! Yes, it's the 1971 Pinto Pony....just look at that pleather interior....the DeLuxe AM radio that plays an amazing 7 stations!! Yes Buffy you'll enjoy this groovy new car...until someone hits the back bumper and it explodes! Thanks for playing!"

Bingo

Yes, it was quite a relief to find that I didn't have 100 catastrophes to deal with when I got back to work this morning!! There were a couple of things that kind of grated on my nerves, but nothing I couldn't handle! Get this....even the hens were glad that I was back! Things still aren't anywhere close to normal with them, but they're better than they used to be.

Well I guess that's about it for now!

 BRY-M LIVES!!

Yes, it appears as though I am going to survive my latest round of sickness after all. So you all can put away those life insurance policies that you took out on me this morning! And NO HeatherScot, you can NOT have my collection of erotic Yogi Bear playing cards! Dramatic Death

My recovery aside, I've got a question:

WHERE'S BELLA???!!!!!

I went by her blog a little while ago and it's been deactivated!!
ShockedFaint
I haven't been this upset since Nancy McKeon announced she wasn't doing "The Facts of Life" reunion movie...and trust me when I tell you, I was REALLY upset about that! Yes, Jo was the butch one, but there's just something sexy about that ponytail she wore!!

(Ahem)
Anyway....I hope that Bella's deactivation was nothing more than a tragic 'mis-click' {I've done that before!} and that she will realize it soon and come back to her adoring fans!

I have a feeling that I'll have a relapse tomorrow once I get to work.....I am REALLY....REALLY.....REALLY dreading going back!! Who wants to place a bet on how many emails I'll have in the morning?

40?
50?
60?

My personal guess is 60.....

As if my first two days of the week haven't been traumatic enough, I found out that my aunt in Wisconsin is in the hospital after having suffered a stroke. That in itself is not a good thing, but the doctors have also found an anyeuirsm (however you spell that)....but to make matters WORSE, they have no intention of treating it because they say she has to recover from the stroke first. Well I understand that part of it, but the aunt has had a HORRIBLE headache since Thursday afternoon, which is NOT a good sign when you have an anyeurism in your head! In addition to this, the poor lady is also in need of a lung transplant and lost her job a few months ago because of an injury she got while at work....I guess in Wisconsin someone can be fired when they're out on Workman's Comp?

That's about it for now--y'all pray that my day goes well tomorrow....remember, I'm having to monitor my blood pressure for two weeks...!!

 THROWIN'UP TUESDAY!

Well if yesterday wasn't bad enough, I had to wake up this morning to a rather *unpleasant* experience [see today's title] and it hasn't let up. Vomit  Or would that be let "down"? Or "stayed down"? Whatever the case, I feel like shit. Thankfully, my visit to the doctor yesterday covered me for today as well. Of course when I do go back to work tomorrow, there will be a mountain of work that I'll be behind on. *sigh I just can't seem to win for losing this week!

So that's going to be it for today's entry, unless I'm feeling better a bit later.
